***BIG CONVOY***

From the ashes of ‘Mat Wale & The Rackets’ and ‘Whiskey Cove’ comes Big Convoy, an alt. Country band five years in the making. Comprised of singer/ songwriters John Bachelor and Mat Wale and an all-star rhythm section courtesy of Thom ‘T-Bone’ Gill and Toby Evans.

If you would have walked into ‘The Green Room’ anytime in 2007, you could have found any number of these people playing songs and partying harder than any jobbing unsigned musicians had a right to. Now in 2012, with a lot of water under the bridge and whole lot of other stuff too, they have finally come good on promises made and are in a band together.

Their brand new EP will be available on the night.

***KILLING FIELDS OF ONTARIO***

Killing Fields of Ontario were formed in 2007 by Tom Brewster and Stuart Kempster. In early 2008, after months of song writing, they were put in touch with musical prodigy Dave Loffman, who kindly agreed to record a demo. Dave also took up drum duties, and semi-legendary ‘Rocketeers’ front man James “Roadkill” Brooks stepped in on bass to complete the line up.

The initial recordings were predominantly acoustic and banjo driven, however as new songs emerged the band became more electric, with bigger drums and bigger guitars (in a musical, not dimensional, sense). Using a varied combination of acoustic and electric instruments, the band create a sound that is powerful and modern, and yet still steeped heavily in folk roots.

The band are now a five piece and their catalogue includes debut album ‘The Shock Of The Sparks’. In May they released new single ‘Cloud’.

“The frontmen swapped between guitar, banjo, mandolin and keyboards to produce a sumptuous set rich in variety, texture and nuance. On a couple of occasions all 4 musicians sang beautiful a capella breaks which tingled the spine” Counterfeit Magazine

“Foot-stompingly upbeat gung-ho songs like ‘Tired of Being a Man’ were delivered with electric force and uplifting enthusiasm. Capable of soft and sweet tunes too, Killing Fields Of Ontario really showed that they are more than a one trick pony; definitely worth catching” Leeds Music Scene

***THE KIRKLAND TURN***

The Kirkland Turn combine the expressive guitar playing and weathered voice of Daryl Kirkland supported by the idiosyncratic talents of his wife, Katie, who creates an undercurrent of drama with her minimal two-drum set up and haunting trumpet lines. With the stoic presence of cousin Ian on bass, the Kirkland Turn make a music both hushed and psalm-like, shot through with a jagged darkness. Making wonderfully ragged home recordings they release them on their own ‘BadJack Recordings’ label.

The Kirkland Turn are based around the sublime harmonies of Daryl & Katie Kirkland, bringing a pure and sublimely soulful sensibility to perfectly pitched folk gems. Each song sounds as though it’s rightful place is alongside the classics in your CD collection.” The Gladstone, London
