you suffer the consequences, but Curtis Eller valiantly battled through “the lurgy” to deliver another sparking show with The American Circus last night. Big thanks to Curtis & co., Paul McClure for a fine opening set, and everybody that joined us to fill The Greystones.

We’ll be in The Backroom again on Thursday June 27th for an evening with Neil McSweeney, you can find full details here. But before then we return to Shakespeares for our next show on Friday June 21st. WagonWheel Presents… welcomes Jody Davies, Daniel Kemish, E.R. Thorpe and B.W. Pike for an “in the round” songwriter show. These shows are always special and this one promises to be no different, you can read the full preview here. If you’ve been to one of these shows before, you know how good they. If not, why not come along and find out?

and counting, but last night everything added up to another great show at The Greystones. Thanks go to Rachel Harrington, Boss Caine, and everybody that joined us for what was our 100th show in The Backroom.

We’re there next on November 6th with Otis Gibbs plus Paul McClure, tickets are on sale here.

Before that though WagonWheel Presents… pays another visit to our favourite beer shop, when Andy P. Davison and Jody Davies play an unplugged show at Hop Hideout tomorrow night. Unfortunately if you’re not one of the lucky ticket holders, this has already sold out. You can take a look at what else we have coming up though over on the Gigs page. Maybe you can join us at one of those.

On Friday June 7th, WagonWheel Presents… welcomes Curtis Eller’s American Circus back to The Greystones. Returning with a brand new record, Curtis brings the full US band to the UK for the first time. After beginning his show business career at the age of seven as a juggler and acrobat, the Detroit native turned to the banjo and lit out for New York City where he rose to obscurity as “New York’s angriest yodeling banjo player”. The Rutland Troubadour Paul McClure opens the show. Advance tickets priced at £11 are available from http://www.wegottickets.com/event/457874 and the venue (12-6pm), or entry on the night will be £13. Doors open 7.45pm.

***CURTIS ELLER’S AMERICAN CIRCUS***

Curtis Eller is a banjo player, songwriter and rock & roll singer. A twenty-year show business veteran, Eller and his band The American Circus have developed a devoted international following based on dynamic, highly physical stage performances and a catalog of curious phonographic recordings. The iconoclastic musician has spent more than a decade relentlessly touring the club, theatre and festival stages of North America and Europe.

Eller is a gifted and prolific songwriter who’s banjo-driven songs describe a dreamlike vision of American history where all points in time have collapsed into one. The American Circus is touring the UK in support of their latest and most ambitious album, “A Poison Melody” on which they have augmented their indelicate, rock & roll rhythms with a tempestuous cloud of horns and an graceless choir of backsliders in their quest to bring Eller’s historically evocative compositions to vivid, cinematic life.

***PAUL McCLURE***

Paul McClure is a singer songwriter from Rutland, England. Known for his intimate, story telling concerts, Paul’s characters and story lines – in particular the loves, laughs and losses that have come his way – though lyrically often brutally honest, nearly always allow the humorous side of any situation to come forward.

Hard Feelings when a band “pulls something out of the back catalogue” for a run of tour dates. So good to hear Oil & Rain in a fine, fine set from Case Hardin at Shakespeares on Thursday night, which rounded off a great night of music following Paul McClure and A Prayer Away. Thanks to them and those that made it out to support live music.

WagonWheel Presents… returns to Shakespeares on Saturday October 28th for another special show. We’ll be joined by Jody Davies, Richard Kitson, Andy P. Davison and Ryan Farmer who’ll be playing “in the round”. Full details can be found here. Maybe we’ll see you there too?

a better night than one M&J duo? Two M&J duos of course. Amazing show as always from Josh Harty at The Greystones last night, complete with some guest guitar from Sheffield slinger Mark Lyall, a really special “i was there” one off. Superb opening from M&J Blues once again too. Thanks to them and Josh and you if you were there.

We’ll be back at The Greystones on October 30th with Wild Ponies and Mat Wale (details here), but next for WagonWheel Presents… we return to Shakespeares tomorrow night in the company of Case Hardin, Paul McClure and A Prayer Away. More good times await, a full preview can be found here, we hope you can join us then.

we don’t have to wait quite so long again until the next time we see Rachel Harrington in Sheffield. Our patience was certainly rewarded with a beautiful show on Friday night at The Greystones, helped in no small part by a fine opening set from Paul McClure. Thanks to all who came along.

Paul McClure makes a relatively swift return to Sheffield when he joins us at Shakespeares on Thursday October 12th for a band set along with Clubhouse Record label mates Case Hardin. A Prayer Away also open this show. Tickets are on sale here.

Next for WagonWheel Presents… though we’re back at The Greystones on Wednesday August 30th when the circus comes to town, Curtis Eller’s American Circus. Full details can be found here. Tickets for this one are selling very well, so be sure to grab yours to guarantee your place under the Big Top.
