thankfully it wasn’t a folk singer’s leg, and hopefully Kirsty McGee & Quiet Loner conquered a few new fans at The Greystones last night. Thanks to them and Charlie Tophill who opened the show with first of three fine sets of the evening.

We’ll be back on Friday June 15th when WagonWheel Presents… returns to Shakespeares for an “in the round” show with Jody Davies, Big Convoy‘s Mat Wale & John Batchelor, and Joe Armitage. Full details on this show can be found here. We hope you can join us then.

On Friday June 15th, WagonWheel Presents… brings another singer/songwriter night to Shakespeares where appearing “in the round” will be Jody Davies (Fargo Railroad Co. / King Quentin), Big Convoy‘s Mat Wale & John Batchelor, plus making a live return after several years away from the stage will be Joe Armitage (Buffalo Ghost). Our previous gigs in this format have proven to be something special, and we’re looking forward to more of the same for what will be our 300th show. Advance tickets priced at £5 are available from http://www.wegottickets.com/event/438412 or entry on the night will be £6. Doors open 8pm for an 8.30pm start.

***JODY DAVIES***

If being in three bands wasn’t enough, Jody Davies airs a more stripped down set of songs in a rare performance of his solo material. Tonight with just his vintage Gibson J-45 (you may know her as Dolly), expect raw, heartfelt songs and to hear one or two of the stories behind them.

***BIG CONVOY***

Big Convoy formed in 2011 and is ordinarily comprised of singer/ songwriters Mat Wale, John Batchelor, bass guitarist Joe O’Brien and drummer Tom Hudson. The band has independently released several EPs and recently returned to action with brand new recording Strings Attached after a few years away. Since their debut they have become an integral part of Sheffield’s thriving Alt. Country scene. Tonight Mat & John play an acoustic set as the comeback continues.

***JOE ARMITAGE***

Singer/songwriter Joe Armitage returns to the stage after more than seven years since his last show. Joe has recently been working on new material under the name of Buffalo Ghost, a project set to soon bear fruit as a full band bringing to life the recordings currently under production with various musical collaborators.

one weekend of great music. That’s what we had over the last couple of days at Shakespeares. It began in fine style on Saturday night in the Bard’s Bar with King Quentin, The Sea Whores and The Ragged Edge, followed by a delightful afternoon in the beer garden yesterday with M&J Blues, Steve Chapman Smith, Big Convoy, Luke Whittemore and Andy P. Davison. Thanks to all involved and all who joined us to listen.

The next WagonWheel Presents… show is on Tuesday September 8th when we welcome The Rosellys and Mat Wale & Friends to The Greystones. You can read a full preview for the show here. Maybe you’ll join us too?
